Trump–Putin meeting
A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled for Friday, August 15, in Alaska. This summit will address the war in Ukraine but will be held without the direct participation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The American leader stated that he hopes to reach an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin on a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. He considers such a scenario to be positive.
Trump also promised that he would not make a deal with Putin without Ukraine's participation.
The American leader also believes that, for peace, there will need to be a "territory exchange" between Ukraine and Russia. Against this backdrop, media reports have emerged suggesting that Moscow will seek to obtain Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
At the same time, Zelenskyy, responding to such a proposal, promised that Ukraine would not withdraw its troops from Donetsk region.
