Trump will push NATO to spend more on defense - Secretary General
Donald Trump may encourage NATO members to spend more on defense. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutteis referred to the allies' commitment to invest more than 2% of GDP.
Journalists asked the NATO Secretary General what Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election meant for Ukraine.
“He [Donald Trump] will push us all to spend more on defense,” he says.
Rutte agreed with Trump's criticism of Europe's increased defense spending. In his opinion, the Republican's criticism has forced NATO allies to spend more than 2% of GDP on military needs.
Rutte also said that he wants to work together with the new US president to confront new dangerous threats associated with North Korea's entry into Russia's war against Ukraine.
The Secretary General warns that the situation is becoming an increasing threat not only to NATO’s European members but also to the United States, due to Russia’s provision of the latest technology to North Korea.
Trump wins US election
Donald Trump won the US election by a landslide and will become president for the second time. Trump's inauguration will take place on January 20, 2025.
Trump has already declared himself the new president. After the election, he made several statements, including a promise to stop all wars.
