The deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Russia to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine may come sooner than 50 days, Trump said while speaking to reporters.

"Oh, I don't think 50 days is very long, and it could be sooner than that," Trump said.

According to him, if no agreement is reached by the end of that period, it will be very bad. In that case, the US will proceed with imposing tariffs and other sanctions on Russia.

Trump gives Putin 50 days to reach peace deal

US President Donald Trump has expressed disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the lack of progress in peace negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine.

Trump stated he had expected a peace agreement with Putin two months ago, but it never materialized.

As a result, he warned that the US would impose tough economic measures on Russia:

"We're going to be doing secondary tariffs if we don't have a deal within 50 days. It's very simple. And they'll be at 100%," emphasized the American leader.

Trump added that he hopes such measures can be avoided, but made it clear that the US is prepared to act firmly.
