Trump: Ukraine's strikes on Russia are escalation that could lead to peace

Ukraine's long-range strikes on Russian territory could help bring the war to an end, US President Donald Trump made the remark during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
During the meeting, a reporter asked Trump to comment on Ukraine's long-range strikes against Russia. In response, the US president turned the question over to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Rubio said that Ukraine and the United States are discussing Kyiv's ability to strike deep inside Russia so that Moscow can see how difficult it is to defend its own airspace.
According to the secretary of state, Washington hopes such actions will help create an opening for negotiations aimed at ending the war.
Trump then weighed in.
"That's an escalation. But that's also an escalation that can lead to an end (to the war - ed.)."
Trump impressed by Ukraine's successes
Earlier, the Financial Times reported, citing sources, that US President Donald Trump is "impressed and fascinated" by Ukraine's campaign of deep strikes inside Russia.
In June, the US president also said that Russia is a large country with a powerful military, but that Ukrainians are doing "pretty well" despite the odds.
According to the US president, Ukraine has good weapons for fighting Russia.
Trump has also praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying that he is doing a fairly good job.
