Trump to speak in Congress: Democrats plan to disrupt his address

US President Donald Trump will deliver a speech at a joint session of Congress today, marking his first address before both chambers since returning to office. However, the address is expected amid heated political controversy: Democrats are preparing for protests, according to CBS News and Axios.
Six weeks after reclaiming the presidency, Trump will speak before Congress tonight. This is his first address to both chambers since resuming his presidential powers.
Traditionally, speeches at this event are an opportunity for the president to present his vision of the future, but this year's address is expected to be amidst heated political controversy.
Trump will take the stage at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time (4:00 a.m. Kyiv time). The duration of his speech remains uncertain, but estimates suggest it could last around an hour, though past Trump addresses have sometimes extended to 90 minutes.
During his speech, he is expected to present his vision of a "golden age for America," which, according to House Speaker Mike Johnson, includes a revival of patriotism, unity, and hope for the future.
Trump’s address to Congress
In his upcoming speech to Congress, US President Donald Trump will focus on several key issues, including his administration’s efforts to fix the country’s economic situation.
Officials stated that the President will discuss how his team continues to address economic challenges that have emerged under the Biden administration, taking steps to curb inflation and improve financial conditions for all Americans.
Trump is expected to highlight more than $1.7 trillion in investments made since he took office. These funds have been directed toward revitalizing US manufacturing, expanding domestic energy production, and boosting private-sector development in artificial intelligence and other high-tech industries.
Additionally, the President will insist that Congress allocate additional funds for border security. He will raise the issue of funding for deportations and continuing construction of the border wall along the country’s southern border.
On foreign policy, Trump will outline his plans to restore global peace. He is expected to discuss efforts to end the war in Ukraine and will also highlight his administration’s work to secure the release of all hostages held in Gaz
Democrats plan protest
Meanwhile, Democrats in Congress are actively preparing demonstrations against Trump’s address. Several Democratic lawmakers are reportedly considering various ways to express their discontent with his policies, including possible attempts to disrupt the speech.
According to Axios sources, protest actions may include the use of props, such as anti-Trump placards, eggs, or even empty cardboard boxes symbolizing rising food prices due to inflation. Noise disruptions, such as party poppers or other distracting objects, may also be used.
While some Democrats are planning to leave the session hall if Trump makes controversial statements, others are discussing more traditional forms of protest, such as wearing colored elements in their clothing. For example, the Democratic Women's Caucus plans to wear pink as a sign of protest, and the Congressional Black Caucus plans to wear black to symbolize anger and frustration with the president's policies.
Marcy Kaptur, co-chair of the bipartisan Ukraine Caucus and a Democrat from Ohio, will distribute ties and scarves in the colors of the Ukrainian flag in support of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Despite the tensions, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and other Democratic leaders have stated they will attend the speech to demonstrate firm opposition and reinforce their role as a check on Trump’s administration.
Initially, Trump intended to use the address to announce the successful conclusion of a minerals deal with Ukraine. However, his plans had to be adjusted.
According to an advisor, Trump’s original speech, scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, was set to focus on a newly signed minerals deal with Ukraine.
