Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington on November 7 — one day earlier than previously reported by the media, Index reports.

Orbán’s chief of staff, Gulyás Gergely, confirmed the date of the meeting and said that negotiations between Budapest and Washington have been ongoing for some time on a range of issues. According to him, Orbán aims to reach agreements on cooperation in the energy, military, economic, and financial sectors during his visit.

"The meeting will give both leaders an opportunity to exchange views on possible paths to achieving peace and to discuss an action plan that could lead to a US-Russia meeting and, consequently, an end to the Russia-Ukraine war," Gulyás said.

Bloomberg earlier reported that Orbán and Trump could meet at the end of next week, naming November 8 as the expected date. However, it has now been confirmed that the meeting will take place a day earlier.

It was assumed that one of the main topics of discussion could be the cessation of Hungary's purchases of Russian oil. The European Union and the United States have been trying to pressure Budapest to stop buying Russian energy resources. In response, Hungary’s pro-Russian government has claimed that the country cannot fully give up Russian oil.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker criticized Hungary's position, saying that Washington expects Budapest to gradually phase out Russian oil and gas imports. To support this transition, the US plans to work with Croatia, which could provide alternative energy supplies to Hungary.
