US President Donald Trump will hold a phone call on Monday, December 15, with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the leaders of EU countries, Welt reports.

A senior US official told the outlet that Trump will discuss the current state of negotiations with Ukraine with Zelenskyy and European leaders.

The Welt source also noted that the agreement currently being discussed in Germany includes "very strong" security guarantees for Ukraine from the US, similar to NATO's Article 5. It also involves "very strong deterrence" through American weaponry.

According to the official, the US expects Russia to approve the agreement.

Ukraine-US talks

Since yesterday, December 14, Ukrainian and American officials have been holding negotiations in Berlin.

In the first round, Ukraine was represented by President Zelenskyy, while the US delegation included Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

The US official said the talks were very positive, noting that a consensus was reached on many points, with "90%" of issues resolved. Remaining unresolved matters include territorial and sovereignty issues.

According to RBC-Ukraine sources, the second round of talks is still ongoing, but without the Ukrainian President.

Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, said the dialogue was constructive and productive. He expressed hope for an agreement that could bring Ukraine closer to peace.
