Trump to appoint Emmy Award-winning producer as envoy to Britain
US President-elect Donald Trump has chosen a candidate for the post of special envoy to the United Kingdom. TV producer Mark Burnett may get the position, reports The Guardian.
The statement was posted on Trump's account on the Truth Social platform. He praised Burnett, 64, and noted that he would focus on developing diplomatic relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
Burnett created the popular shows Survivor, Shark Tank, and The Voice. He was a producer of The Apprentice (2004-2015), a reality show that helped Trump gain wide popularity in the United States.
Mark Burnett is the winner of more than 13 Emmy Awards and has many years of experience in television production. It is noted that he has no experience in diplomatic activities.
Trump also said earlier that he would appoint former NFL player Herschel Walker as ambassador to the Bahamas and Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France.
Both candidates have been criticized before: Walker for allegations of coercion to perform abortions, and Kushner for criminal charges of tax evasion and illegal campaign contributions.
The US president-elect also appointed Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.'s former partner, as ambassador to Greece, and billionaire owner of the Houston Rockets NBA team, Tilman Fertitta, as ambassador to Italy.
This is not the first appointment of Donald Trump that has caused resonance and discussion. Trump nominated Fox News anchor and veteran Pete Hegseth to head the Pentagon.
Hegseth's candidacy was criticized in Washington. The media reported that Trump is considering other candidates for the post of Pentagon chief.
