US President Donald Trump threatened Colombia with military action, hinting at an expansion of forceful measures after Venezuela and warning of possible consequences for the country, Politico reports.
Trump sent a sharp warning to Colombia, saying that Washington could expand military operations to combat drug trafficking into the country.
According to him, Colombia produces large quantities of illegal substances, and the country's leader must be prepared for the consequences; otherwise, the country will become the next target of US action.
Forceful strategy continuation
Trump has previously mentioned plans to expand operations similar to those in Venezuela to Mexico and Colombia.
Since September 2025, the US has carried out at least 20 strikes on ships in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean that, according to unconfirmed reports, may have been transporting drugs.
US military forces in the region
To increase pressure on drug trafficking, the White House has concentrated significant forces in the region: a modern aircraft carrier, a nuclear submarine, a special-purpose vessel, dozens of other warships, more than 14,000 military personnel, and fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets.
Possible consequences for Colombia
Judging by Trump's statements, a similar strategy of forceful pressure could be applied to Colombia. Such a scenario underscores the US's willingness to expand its military operations in the region and use massive resources to achieve its goals.
US President Donald Trump confirmed the seizure of a Venezuelan tanker by the US military off the coast of the country and announced new actions against the regime of Nicolas Maduro, stressing that there is more news to come in this direction.
Discussions on the parameters of a possible peace agreement are ongoing, but the positions of Ukraine, the US, and Russia remain very different, which is why European structures assess the process as having dragged on for months.
