The United States could launch new strikes against Iran if Tehran fails to comply with previously reached agreements regarding the Strait of Hormuz, stated US President Donald Trump on Truth Social.
Conditions for Iran
According to Trump, compliance with the agreements would allow the Strait of Hormuz to remain open to all countries, including Iran.
Trump added that counting on such an outcome could prove too optimistic. If Iran refuses to comply, Washington is prepared to take decisive action.
Trump warned of a possible military response.
"If they don’t agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before," the President wrote.
Situation in the Strait of Hormuz
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged China to directly convey to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, currently visiting Beijing, that continued hostility in the Strait of Hormuz could lead to Tehran’s global isolation.
According to the American official, any Iranian blockade of maritime routes would also damage China’s economy, which could become an important leverage.
Meanwhile, amid the US naval blockade, Iran has already begun reducing oil production. Despite trade restrictions, Tehran appears to be relatively prepared for this level of economic pressure.
At the same time, there have been signs of diplomatic progress: representatives of the United States and Iran are reportedly close to signing a one-page memorandum aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East.
