US President Donald Trump has stated that he is likely to impose new sanctions on Russia if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses to come to the negotiating table regarding the war in Ukraine, according to Bloomberg and CNN.

During his speech, Trump added that he would soon speak with Putin and is ready to meet him at any time he wishes.

"Zelensky would like to have peace. But it takes two to tango. We’ll see what happens," said the US president, referring to Putin.

Trump also confirmed that he discussed the war in Ukraine during a recent phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

On January 20, after his inauguration, Trump also stated that Zelenskyy wants to reach an agreement. At the same time, the US president expressed hope that Putin should also be ready for an agreement, as failing to reach one would lead the Russian president to destroy Russia.

"I think Russia has big problems. Just look at inflation in Russia... I would hope he wants to make a deal," said Trump.

He also mentioned that he is trying to achieve an end to the war in Ukraine as quickly as possible, reiterating his claim that this war should never have started.

Furthermore, the new US Secretary of State, Mark Rubio, also commented on the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine after taking office.According to him, both sides will have to give up something.
