Immediately after his confirmation in the US Senate as Secretary of State, Marco Rubio commented on the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine. The politician believes that each side will have to give up something, reports CNN.

In a conversation with the media, Rubio admitted that he could not provide a specific timeframe for the end of the Russia-Ukraine war.

However, he stated that both sides will have to make concessions to end the conflict.

Rubio also clearly acknowledged Russia as the aggressor in this war.

"We want the war to end. That’s pretty clear. You saw the President talked about, he wants to be a president that promotes peace and ends conflicts, and it’ll be complicated as well," said the future US Secretary of State.

According to him, these are difficult issues, and he cannot set a timeframe.

However, Rubio added that he could say that anytime you bring an end to a conflict between two sides, neither of whom can achieve their maximum goals, each side is going to have to give up something.

Despite this, the American politician did not specify what such a concession from Ukraine could entail.

"We’re not going to get ahead of ourselves talking about negotiations, and what these negotiations at this level, with these sorts of stakes, are best conducted through diplomacy, and, you know, not in public forums. And obviously the countries involved, both the Russians and the Ukrainians, will have, they’ll have to make ultimate decisions about what they’re what they agreed to," Rubio said.

In response to a question about when negotiations and a ceasefire could begin, Rubio stated that this will be the president's top priority, so it will be almost immediate.

"In fact, some of that’s already begun. You would hope that some of the groundwork has already been laid but it’ll be complex. I mean, it’s a complex conflict and but a bloody one, and it needs to end," Rubio emphasized.

He added that Russia is the aggressor in this conflict, but this war needs to end.

Trump's intentions regarding ending Russia-Ukraine war

Donald Trump had repeatedly promised to put an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war even before he was elected President of the US.

In particular, Trump had pledged to end the war within the first 24 hours of his presidency. Furthermore, on January 8, Trump's future special envoy to Ukraine, Kit Kellogg, stated that he wanted to find a solution to end the war between Russia and Ukraine within 100 days.

Recently, Trump's future National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, mentioned that three key issues remain unresolved regarding potential future negotiations and agreements between Ukraine and Russia.

Yesterday, it was also reported that Trump’s team is preparing for negotiations and a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to bring an end to the war against Ukraine.
