US President Donald Trump believes that Iran is deliberately delaying the conclusion of a nuclear deal with Washington. The American leader has threatened possible military action if Tehran does not abandon its plans to develop nuclear weapons, according to Reuters.

In a conversation with the media, Trump stated that Iran could face a harsh response from the US, including the possibility of strikes on Tehran's nuclear facilities.

After US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met with a senior Iranian official in Oman on Saturday, Trump expressed the opinion that Tehran is pushing us.

"Iran has to get rid of the concept of a nuclear weapon. They cannot have a nuclear weapon," Trump stated.

When asked by the media whether the US response options include a military strike on Tehran's nuclear facilities, the American president replied, "Of course it does."

According to Trump, the Iranians must act quickly to avoid a harsh response, as they are quite close to developing nuclear weapons.

Nuclear talks between the US and Iran

It should be noted that on Saturday, both the US and Iran stated that they held positive and constructive talks in Oman. According to Western media reports, a second round of negotiations is likely to take place in Rome.

A Reuters source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, reported that the discussions are focused on exploring what is possible, including broad frameworks for how a potential agreement could look.

Washington and Tehran held indirect talks during the presidency of former US President Joe Biden but did not achieve significant progress.

The last known direct talks between the two governments took place during the presidency of Barack Obama, who led the 2015 international nuclear agreement, which Trump later withdrew from.

Earlier, it was reported that on April 12, the first stage of indirect negotiations between the US and Iran took place. The parties discussed Tehran's nuclear program and the possibility of lifting sanctions.

Additionally, US President Donald Trump has previously threatened Iran with bombings if Tehran refuses to sign a nuclear deal with Washington.

On April 10, Trump stated that Israel could lead a potential military operation against Iran if the parties do not reach an agreement on the nuclear program.
