Trump starts policy on deportation of migrants in first hours of his administration - CNN
Donald Trump's company is finalizing a package of tough immigration executive orders. These are expected to be published just hours after the US President-elect takes office, reports CNN.
According to two sources, the package of measures represents a drastic shift in immigration policy. It will affect immigrants already in the US as well as migrants seeking asylum at the US-Mexico border. This, in turn, will set the stage for immigration crackdowns with far-reaching consequences for people across the country.
The plan includes:
- immigration and Customs Enforcement checks in major metropolitan areas;
- the deployment of additional Pentagon resources to the southern US border;
- imposition of new entry restrictions to the US;
- the reversal of Biden-era policies.
"You’ll see removal planes, reports of arrests occurring, ICE action in sanctuary jurisdictions. As you get into 30 days and first 100 days, that’s where you’ll see a consistent drumbeat," one CNN source said, referring to the new administration's deportation plans.
Sources also claim that Trump’s team, at least initially, will focus on undocumented immigrants with criminal backgrounds who are subject to deportation in major metropolitan areas such as Washington, D.C., Denver, and Chicago. However, other immigrants discovered during these operations could also be detained.
Key players in Trump's immigration agenda include:
- South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, whose confirmation hearing is slated for Friday, as homeland security secretary;
- Tom Homan as border czar;
- Stephen Miller, incoming deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security adviser.
Summarizing, CNN writes that Trump will inherit a relatively calm US southern border, but his team is preparing to implement border security measures and enact policies that will radically alter the US immigration system.
As early as late December 2024, the New York Post reported that Trump promised to launch the largest deportation operation in US history immediately after his inauguration.
We also reported that Trump is preparing to sign over 100 executive orders on his first day in the White House. As previously known, these will address border security, deportations, and a range of other political priorities.
