Trump slams Putin for wasting money on war instead of investing in economic growth

The Russian economy is currently in decline. Moscow is spending all its money on killings and war, said US President Donald Trump during a conversation with journalists.
Trump said that he "always got along with President Putin". At the same time, the US President reminded that he was "tough" on the Kremlin leader because he shut down the Nord Stream pipelines.
"I thought we’d be able to negotiate something. Maybe that’ll still happen, but it’s very late down the process. I’m disappointed," Trump said.
The American leader also pointed out that Russia has a "relatively small economy". The Russian army is strong, but the economy is not.
"It used to be a strong economy. Now it's not. Economically, it's not easy," Trump said, adding that Russia's economy is "pretty small" compared to its "massive" territory.
Trump believes that Russia could be "thriving like practically no other country," but its own government is holding it back. At the same time, the US cannot strike economic deals with Russia, as Putin wants.
"Russia could be so rich right now. But instead, they spend all of their money on war and killing people. It doesn't make sense to me. I thought he’d want to end this thing quickly, but every time I think it’s going to end, he kills people," Trump said.
Ukraine’s economy could surpass Russia’s
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent previously stated that in 20 years, Ukraine’s economy could be larger than Russia’s.
According to him, such a scenario is possible due to effective governance, a strong partnership (between Ukraine and the US – ed.), and global investment.
