At a rally in Texas, US President Donald Trump once again claimed that Washington received nothing in return for the $350 billion in aid to Ukraine and its European allies allocated by former President Joe Biden’s administration.

During his speech, Trump said his administration had rebuilt the US military, while former President Joe Biden "gave it away."

“We rebuilt the military. Biden gave a lot of it away. We could have charged them. This is Europe. They can pay,” the US president said.

Trump added that under his administration, the US now charges European countries for weapons supplies. He was referring to the PURL program, through which partner countries help purchase weapons for Ukraine.

“They give weapons to Ukraine or somebody, but they pay us. Biden could have asked. He gave them $350 billion, and we never get anything for it, other than they think we’re stupid,” the US leader said.

Concluding his remarks, the White House chief thanked his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, for his peace efforts, emphasizing that he was making great progress.

What else is important to know

In April this year, Trump also accused Biden of helping Ukraine, and said the US should never have gotten involved in the situation in Ukraine, arguing that the country was across the ocean from the United States. According to Trump, the $350 billion had been spent “for nothing.”

Trump has also largely suspended direct US financial and military aid to Ukraine. However, the US midterm elections for Congress are scheduled for November 3. According to Reuters, Democrats could push for new US aid to Ukraine if they win.
