After his talks with Kremlin head Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump began repeating the Kremlin’s talking points, Bloomberg reports.

The outlet recalled that Trump held a phone call with Putin earlier this week. During the conversation, the American leader refrained from demanding an immediate ceasefire or threatening new sanctions. This has raised concerns in Europe that Trump may be backing away from his previously stated intentions to reach a peace deal quickly.

According to sources familiar with the matter, during a follow-up call with European leaders held shortly after his conversation with Putin, Trump "signaled that he was convinced Russia was winning, repeating a number of the Kremlin’s talking points".

Bloomberg's sources did not disclose what exactly the American President said.

Trump’s talks with European leaders

US President Donald Trump called Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, May 19.

Immediately afterward, Trump held a series of calls with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

According to Axios, Trump claimed that Putin had agreed to negotiations with Ukraine, but said the US would not participate.

At the same time, the American President dismissed a new sanctions package against Russia as a bad idea.

Following the call, some of the European leaders on the line appeared surprised or even shocked.
