US President Donald Trump has brought up Europe's purchases of Russian oil amid a deal to import diesel fuel from Russia.

"The European Union paid Russia 250 billion dollars for energy, and the fake news media doesn't want to get near that story," Trump said.

He claims he made what he considers the right choice for the American people.

Trump-Putin deal

As reported last week, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed that Russia would begin supplying diesel fuel to the United States.

According to Trump, Russia will deliver around 300,000 metric tons of diesel fuel to the United States immediately. Supply volumes will then increase.

After the talks, Moscow lifted its ban on exports of petroleum products. Russian officials also said the first shipments of Russian diesel fuel to the United States could arrive as early as October.

Meanwhile, Washington suspended the sanctions that prohibit imports of Russian energy resources until April next year.

The US president's decision has drawn sharp criticism, including from Republicans. On October 12, a bipartisan group of senators urged Trump to reverse his decision to buy diesel fuel from Russia.
