The US has set a condition for Ukraine to sign a minerals agreement. Kyiv is required to agree to a quick ceasefire, Bloomberg reports.

According to the media outlet, European officials have received information that Trump wants to "link" the signing of a minerals agreement to Ukraine agreeing to a quick ceasefire.

Sources from Bloomberg indicate that the US "made it clear" that they are ready to finalize the agreement with Ukraine if President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agrees to pursue a path to a ceasefire and negotiations with Moscow.

The sources noted that this is the only reason the agreement between Ukraine and the US has not been signed yet, despite statements from both Trump and Zelenskyy about their readiness to finalize the deal.

Some Bloomberg sources suggested that in the coming days, the situation with the agreement could move forward. However, the US position may still change, as Trump is known for altering his views.

Previously, President Zelenskyy mentioned that Ukraine would agree to a ceasefire with Russia only if security guarantees and additional military aid are provided.

Minerals agreement

Ukraine and the US were supposed to sign a minerals agreement last week. However, plans changed after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump had a dispute.

Recently, the American leader emphasized that the US does not consider the agreement "dead." US officials have repeatedly stated that the agreement would help them recover "taxpayer money" that the US provided to Ukraine as military and financial aid.

On March 5, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that negotiations on the agreement between Ukraine and the US are ongoing.
