Trump seeks to involve Erdoğan to stop Russia's war in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump wants to involve Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in ending Russia's war against Ukraine, Trump stated on Truth Social.
"I just had a very good and productive telephone conversation with the President of Turkey, Recep Erdoğan, concerning many subjects, including the War with Russia/Ukraine, all things Syria, Gaza, and more," Trump wrote.
He mentioned that Erdoğan invited him to visit Türkiye and announced his visit to Washington. Trump noted that during his previous presidential term, he had a great relationship with President Erdoğan.
The US President highlighted that they worked together on many issues, including helping bring back Pastor Andrew Brunson, who had been imprisoned, to the United States.
"In any event, I look forward to working with President Erdoğan on getting the ridiculous, but deadly, War between Russia and Ukraine ended — NOW!" Trump added.
Türkiye’s position on the war in Ukraine
Türkiye maintains a relatively neutral stance in the war in Ukraine, striving to balance its support for Kyiv with its relations with Moscow. Ankara condemned the Russian invasion and affirmed its support for Ukraine's territorial integrity.
However, Türkiye has not joined Western sanctions against Russia, continuing economic ties with Moscow, while actively supporting peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
Recently, President Erdoğan stated that Ankara uses all its diplomatic capabilities to resolve the war in Ukraine.
Trump’s peace efforts
Trump is attempting to act as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine to end the war.
Recently, he mentioned that Washington is "closer with one party." However, he did not specify whether it refers to Ukraine or Russia.
Additionally, Trump did not rule out the possibility that the US may stop being a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.
