US President Donald Trump stated that Iran had called him with a proposal to reach an agreement. This came after recent repeated US attacks in the region, according to CNN.
Speaking to the press, Trump said that following the US attacks, Iran had reached out to Washington to strike a deal. However, he did not know whether they (the Iranians—ed.) are worthy of a deal.
"They called a little while ago, they want to make a deal so badly. I just don’t know if they’re worthy of making a deal," Trump told reporters aboard the plane after the NATO summit in Türkiye.
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump announced the end of the ceasefire between the two countries after Iran struck several ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, and the US responded with a strike early Wednesday morning.
"Every time they hit us, we hit them 20," the US leader told reporters.
Trump was also asked if he was aware of any serious threats from Iran. In response, the US leader said that he constantly heard threats and that he was number one on their list.
Furthermore, commenting on the Iranian attack on ships at a time when the parties were intent on reaching an agreement, Trump said that the Iranians acted this way because they are a little crazy.
On the night of July 9, the US resumed its attacks on Iran. This marks the second consecutive day that US forces have struck Iranian territory.
Following this, Trump posted on social media that this was retaliation for Iran’s attack on three merchant ships, which Tehran carried out on Tuesday, July 7. The US President warned that the situation would worsen if Iran launched further attacks. Meanwhile, Tehran has already announced a retaliatory strike.
In addition to ending the ceasefire, Trump said at the NATO summit that he is not interested in negotiations with Iran.
