Trump says he could impose Graham sanctions on Russia

Sanctions introduced by the late Senator Lindsey Graham could be imposed on Russia if necessary, US President Donald Trump said during his speech at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Trump, Washington continues to work to end Russia's war against Ukraine.
"We continue to seek an end to the disastrous war between Russia and Ukraine, which is killing thousands and thousands of people every month," the US president said.
At the same time, Trump mentioned a law that expands his authority to impose tariffs. He noted that he signed the legislation last week.
"Last week, in honor of Senator Lindsey Graham, I signed a powerful new law passed by Congress providing me with enormous new tariff authorities — and if necessary, I will have to use them," Trump said.
Thus, the US president indicated that he could use the tools provided by the law against Russia if Washington considers it necessary.
"It's time to stop the killing," the US leader added.
On Thursday, September 17, the US House of Representatives approved a bill by Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal that provides for tough sanctions and tariffs against Russia and countries that help it circumvent restrictions or purchase its energy resources.
