Trump's team revising its approach to ending Russia's war against Ukraine - FT
The team of newly elected US President Donald Trump is reviewing its approach to ending Russian aggression in Ukraine. European officials are already discussing this issue with the incoming US administration, Financial Times reports.
One anonymous official noted that Trump's team is "obsessed with strength." According to him, this is why the future US president's team is recalibrating its approach to Ukraine.
"The whole (Trump) team is obsessed with strength and looking strong, so they’re recalibrating the Ukraine approach," the official said.
According to the media outlet, Trump's team has not yet devised a plan to resolve the conflict. This, the Financial Times suggests, may mean that support for Ukraine will continue even after the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
Notably, even before the US presidential elections, Trump repeatedly stated that he would quickly end the war in Ukraine. He even claimed he could do it within a day.
However, after the elections, he has not reiterated this statement, and his comments on the situation in Ukraine have become significantly less specific. Nevertheless, his appointed special envoy on the war in Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said in an interview with Fox News on Wednesday that the goal is to stop the conflict within "100 days."
Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy earlier stated that Trump is gradually backing away from his claims that he could end Russia's war against Ukraine in a day. Lammy even remarked that Trump's timeline has shifted toward Easter.
