Trump's team disavows his advisor's statement on Crimea
An adviser to Donald Trump said that it is “unrealistic” for Ukraine to return Crimea. However, the office of the newly elected president denied this statement, reports Reuters.
A Donald Trump spokesperson said that Republican Bryan Lanza, who outlined some potential contours of a US-backed peace plan in Ukraine, was not speaking on behalf of the president-elect.
Moreover, the Trump spokesperson denied that the longtime Republican strategist, who was a contractor for the Trump campaign, spoke on his behalf.
He also emphasized that Trump's transition team is currently vetting personnel and developing policies that Trump could adopt during his second term.
Lanza's statement
Earlier today, President-elect Trump's senior adviser Lanza said that the new administration will focus on achieving peace in Ukraine, not on returning the territories occupied by Russia.
He even stated that the return of Crimea was “unrealistic” and not a goal of the United States.
