The plane used by Trump’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, has reportedly landed at Vnukovo Airport, according to Russian media.

"The plane used by Witkoff landed at Vnukovo amid reports of a planned visit by Trump’s special envoy to Russia," writes RIA Novosti.

Footage has also surfaced on social media showing what is believed to be the same aircraft.

Just over an hour ago, reports indicated that, according to Flightradar24 data, an aircraft of the same type used by Steve Witkoff had crossed the Russian border.

Several media outlets also report that Witkoff was met by Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

US-Russia talks on the war in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump previously announced that Steve Witkoff would travel to Russia in the coming days to discuss the situation in Ukraine.

Soon after, reports suggested the visit was planned for the weekend, but Trump later clarified that the trip would take place on August 6 or 7.

Last night, the US president once again spoke to reporters and announced that negotiations between the US and Russia would take place tomorrow (August 6). He was likely referring to Witkoff’s visit.

Why this visit is important

By mid-July, Trump had given Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin 50 days to end the war in Ukraine. Otherwise, he threatened to impose secondary tariffs and sanctions, particularly targeting buyers of Russian oil.

Soon after, Trump significantly shortened his deadline, stating that August 8 would be the last day by which Russia should make a decision. He expressed frustration that while he talks to Putin by phone about ending the war, rockets continue to hit Ukrainian cities.

During a late-night press conference, Trump said he would decide on imposing pressure on Russia and its trade partners purchasing Russian oil after Steve Witkoff’s visit to Russia.
