US President's Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, will travel to Moscow this week, states White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, according to Le Figaro.

Thus, Leavitt confirmed media rumors that Witkoff would visit Russia but did not specify the date of the trip.

She also stated that the US is calling on Russia to accept the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, which was agreed upon with Ukraine.

US-Russia contacts

Previously, US President Donald Trump stated that American officials would travel to Russia to discuss the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire.

According to the US leader, he also plans to hold a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin this week.

Notably, Witkoff had already visited Russia in February. At that time, according to media reports, he might have met with Putin, with the meeting lasting about 3.5 hours.

More details on whose idea the 30-day truce was can be found in the RBC-Ukraine report.
