Trump's Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff reportedly met with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his trip to Moscow, and also held talks with representatives of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Fox News reports.

The Fox News host Sean Hannity stated that Trump’s Special Envoy had spoken with Russian leader Vladimir Putin during his trip to Moscow. According to the report, Steve Witkoff had a conversation with the Russian President that lasted nearly 3.5 hours.

The details of their discussion were not clarified by the host. The White House did not comment on the potential negotiations.

The New York Times reported that Witkoff spoke with Putin's closest allies before his trip to Moscow. In addition, the envoy had several meetings with representatives from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, where they discussed the war in Ukraine.

Witkoff's visit to Moscow

On Tuesday, February 11, Steve Witkoff visited Moscow on a special mission. The Trump envoy brought back American teacher Marc Fogel on his plane.

Fogel had been imprisoned in Russia on charges of drug possession. He spent three years in prison, claiming that the substances found in his possession were medical marijuana.

Ultimately, the US and Russia managed to reach an agreement for his return home. The White House did not disclose details about the exchange. However, Trump called the deal "very fair, very smart." The US President also mentioned that Fogel's release could be a crucial step toward ending the war in Ukraine.

Earlier, Trump had tasked Witkoff to assist in resolving Russia's war against Ukraine. According to the US President, Witkoff has all the necessary skills for negotiating.
