The sons of US President Donald Trump, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., have invested in the startup Powerus, which plans to acquire Ukrainian drone manufacturers. The company intends to license Ukrainian technologies to produce drones in the United States, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Startup Powerus plans to go public on NASDAQ through a reverse merger with Aureus Greenway Holdings, a company that currently owns golf courses in Florida. Among the key shareholders of this structure is the Trump family’s investment fund, American Ventures.
In addition, the project’s shareholders include Unusual Machines, which manufactures drone components. Donald Trump Jr. serves as a member of its advisory board and is also a co-owner.
Powerus CEO Andrew Fox explained the shift in the company’s business focus by saying that the drone market will grow much faster than the golf industry.
Plans for Ukrainian technologies
Powerus co-founder and US Special Operations Forces veteran Brett Velicovich confirmed that the company is already negotiating with Ukrainian developers. The startup’s goal is either to fully acquire Ukrainian enterprises or to license their technologies.
According to Velicovich, the experience of Ukrainian manufacturers gained in real combat conditions is extremely valuable for developing effective drones in the United States.
What is known about Powerus
Founded in 2025, the startup Powerus has quickly entered the US DefenseTech market. Based in Florida, the company focuses on powerful sea and air drones capable of carrying loads of up to 450 kg and is implementing innovations in firefighting technologies.
Particular attention is drawn to the startup’s connection with the Trump family and its active interest in Ukrainian military technologies, which Powerus plans to acquire for its own developments.
Why Ukrainian drones are valuable
Ukraine offers the world a revolutionary and cost-effective way to counter Iranian drones. While a single missile for the Patriot system costs around $4 million, a Ukrainian interceptor drone costs only a few thousand dollars, making it an ideal tool against Shahed drones (about $30,000 per unit). This technological breakthrough has attracted the attention of the Pentagon and the government of Qatar.
According to foreign media, these countries are considering importing Ukrainian technologies to protect their airspace at minimal cost.
