Countries that join the Board of Peace initiated by US President Donald Trump could be responsible for monitoring the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a conversation with journalists in Davos.

The Ukrainian President confirmed that Ukraine has been invited to the Board of Peace.

"When we discussed the 20-point plan regarding security guarantees and how to control one of the key first steps, such as a ceasefire, the American side proposed that they would need partners to monitor it alongside the United States. This could take the form of a kind of Board of Peace, which would include both sides of the war," the President said.

He clarified that the creation of such a Board of Peace is not news to him, but he did not know it would be established in Davos or who the US President would invite to participate.

"Right now, we are enemies with the Russians. Belarusian allies are on Russia’s side; we cannot be with them," Zelenskyy added.

The President explained that the Board of Peace is already included in the 20-point plan.

"I think it will work. It will function with a monitoring mission only after the war ends for us. There may be other issues, for example, Gaza and other topics. I’m not talking about our involvement in Gaza or other matters. This is about those partners who will oversee the ceasefire and security guarantees," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Board of Peace

Today, January 22, at the World Economic Forum, US President Donald Trump signed the Charter of the Board of Peace.

The American leader did this together with the leaders of Paraguay, Uzbekistan, Kosovo, and 16 other countries.

Initially, the Board of Peace was expected to focus solely on the Gaza Strip, but Trump wants its mandate to be expanded to include issues related to other conflicts as well.
