US President Donald Trump didn’t shy away from mentioning his idea of annexing Canada during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House, CNN reports.

Trump once again said he believes Canada should become the 51st US state.

"It takes two to tango, right? I believe it would be a massive tax cut for the Canadian citizens. You get free military, tremendous medical cares, other things. There would be a lot of advantages," he said.

The President added that he’s a builder at heart and that’s why he wants to unite the two countries.

"But we’re not going to be discussing that unless somebody wants to discuss it," Trump assured.

In turn, Carney countered that there are places in the real estate industry that are never sold.

"Having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign, last several months - It’s not for sale. It won’t be for sale, ever," the Canadian Prime Minister emphasized.

He added that his government plans to boost investment in Canada’s security and in its partnership with the United States.

Also, according to Carney, Trump has "revitalized" international security and NATO. He assured that Canada will put "full weight" into the intergovernmental transnational military alliance.

Trump, in turn, circled back to the topic of annexation: "Never say never."

Trump's ambitions

US President Donald Trump has said several times that he wants Canada to join the United States.

However, yesterday, May 5, he softened his position a bit. In particular, the American leader promised not to use military force against Canada.
