US President Donald Trump aims to sign a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia during the G20 summit, scheduled to take place in Florida in December. The negotiations may be conducted under pressure on Kyiv, according to The Atlantic.

As The Atlantic notes, the US president views a potential peace agreement as the finale of a series of diplomatic events.

According to advisers to the American leader, Trump expects to personally stand between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin during the signing of the document.

To achieve this goal, Washington is considering the possibility of exerting severe pressure on the Ukrainian side.

"But right now, he’s furious at Ukraine, and he wants Zelenskyy gone," the Atlantic quotes a source close to the US president.

Furthermore, Trump's inner circle views the war as an obstacle to future economic agreements with Russia.

In particular, this involves the restoration of contracts regarding diesel fuel, rare earth mineral extraction, and other resources. To facilitate this, Ukraine may be pressured to renounce its claims to the Donbas region.

Ukrainian officials express concern that key decisions are being made without Kyiv's participation.

"Our worry is that they are looking at this as a new Yalta Conference, to divide the world into spheres of influence," one senior official stated.

The media outlet noted that despite its readiness to participate in international summits, the Ukrainian side rejects any ultimatums.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed his participation in the G20 summit and his readiness to meet with Putin to develop a fair agreement, but categorically refused any territorial concessions in favor of Russia.

Previously, the US has repeatedly called for a ceasefire as soon as possible, but Washington's demands have often been accompanied by restrictions on Ukrainian forces.

In particular, the White House has demanded that Kyiv cease strikes on Russian oil refineries.

Ukraine-Russia negotiations

Moscow has reportedly expressed readiness to return to the negotiation process with Kyiv and Washington. At the same time, the Ukrainian side, along with its allies, is seeking new pathways to achieve a just peace.

In particular, the US President's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, stated during his meeting with Putin that there are prerequisites for a ceasefire in Ukraine and brought the relevant documents to Moscow.

Furthermore, during trilateral consultations involving Ukrainian, American, and European delegations in Norway, new peace initiatives were developed.

As Finnish President Alexander Stubb noted, ideas for a peaceful settlement of the war have already been identified and are planned to be presented to the Russian side in the near future.
