New ideas for a peaceful settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine emerged during a meeting of Ukrainian, US, and European delegations in Norway. The proposals will be presented to Russia, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said at a press conference following the meeting.

He noted that today's talks had achieved real progress on two levels: in the short term and in the broader context.

"We found some elements of a peace which will be taken forward to St. Petersburg tomorrow (during a meeting between the US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin – ed.)," Stubb added.

According to him, the discussions focused on key elements of security, such as air defense, energy facilities, and partial ceasefires, for example, in the areas of energy and food security.

The president clarified that, technically, the sides share the same position.

"In my experience, peace requires patience, but unfortunately, war does not wait. People are dying every and each day. Our job is to do what we can to end it. And I think today was a step in the right direction," he said.

Russia rejects ceasefire

Russia has repeatedly rejected proposals from Ukraine and the US for an energy ceasefire.

In particular, US President Donald Trump recently announced that Kyiv and Moscow had agreed to stop strikes on energy infrastructure. As it turned out, the sides had not reached such an agreement, although Ukraine had indeed suspended strikes on Russian oil refineries.

Russia, meanwhile, continued its attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, hoping to cause a blackout.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov cynically declared that there would be no ceasefire, justifying this by claiming that Ukraine would be flooded with weapons during a ceasefire.
