Russian leader Vladimir Putin lied to US President Donald Trump about his intention to end the war against Ukraine. The American leader eventually realized it, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with the New York Post.

"Putin has wasted President Trump’s time. I would very much like to see the United States, the Congress, and the president put some pressure on this situation with sanctions, and so the sooner, the faster it can be done, the better," Zelenskyy said.

He added that he understands Trump’s feelings, as the US President genuinely believed the Russians were "capable of ending the war." But in reality, they had no such intention.

Zelenskyy stressed that Putin simply lied to Trump, pretending he wanted peace while accusing Ukraine’s President of refusing to compromise.

"Today, President Trump is disappointed that all of this turned out to be a lie, that Putin was just playing him," Zelenskyy said.

What Trump said about Putin

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that the US gets "a lot of bullsh**t thrown" by Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

This tough statement came just days after Trump’s phone call with Putin. Following the conversation, Trump acknowledged that the Kremlin leader had no intention of ending the war against Ukraine.

Trump also insisted that Putin hadn’t managed to fool him, unlike with previous US presidents.
