Trump ready to impose sanctions on Russia if talks with Putin 'don't go as hoped' – White House

US President Donald Trump may impose sanctions on Russia if his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin are unsuccessful, states White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt at a briefing.
In her opinion, Ukraine and Russia are now "on the 10-yard line" to peace, and the countries "have never been closer to a peace deal than they are now."
"President (Trump - ed.) is determined to get one done," Leavitt emphasized.
At the same time, journalists asked her whether Trump would consider imposing sanctions on Russia if his call with Putin tomorrow is unsuccessful.
"It is something the president has floated, and of certainly, he is willing to do so if necessary," Leavitt replied.
Trump-Putin talks
US President Donald Trump previously announced that he would speak by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin tomorrow, March 18.
Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed the information about the possible talks between Trump and Putin.
According to Peskov, the primary topic will be resolving Russia’s war against Ukraine.
It is worth noting that Trump and Putin already spoke by phone in February. At that time, they had a lengthy conversation.
