US President Donald Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin told him about an alleged Ukrainian attack on his residence. He said that it is "not good" and mentioned Tomahawk missiles while speaking to journalists.

The US President initially said he had just heard about the incident and had no information about it.

However, a minute later, he changed his statement, saying he had spoken with the Russian leader about the alleged attack on his residence.

"President Putin told me about that. Early in the morning, he said he was attacked. It’s not good. It’s not good. Don’t forget, I stopped the Tomahawks. It's a delicate period of time. This is not the right time. It's one thing to be offensive, because they're offensive. It's another thing to attack his house. It's not the right time to do any of that," Trump said.

He also responded to a reporter’s question about whether it was possible that the attack claimed by Russia never actually took place.

"You are saying maybe the attack didn't take place. It's possible, too, I guess. But President Putin told me this morning it did," Trump said.

Background

Earlier on Sunday, December 29, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Ukraine had allegedly carried out an attack on the residence of President Vladimir Putin.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested the claim could be preparation for new strikes, noting that Russia is looking for a pretext to attack government buildings in Kyiv.
