Trump plans to patrol Washington streets with police and troops

On the evening of Thursday, August 21, US President Donald Trump intends to join law enforcement officers and military personnel patrolling the streets of Washington as part of the crime-fighting campaign, reports CNN.
“I’m going to be going out tonight, I think, with the police, and with the military, of course,” the president told radio host Todd Starnes.
A senior White House official told the outlet that the details of the announced event by the head of state are still being finalized.
Trump’s plan came the day after Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth hosted a lunch at the Shake Shack restaurant chain at the capital’s central railway station.
In this way, the White House expressed gratitude to the National Guard troops stationed in Washington for patrolling the city to reduce crime levels.
Many of the Guardsmen at the lunch said they had come from South Carolina, one of the six states where Trump won the presidential election. This state has already deployed, or plans to deploy, troops to Washington.
Troops from West Virginia, Ohio, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee are also expected to be stationed in the US capital to help maintain order.
Crime-fighting in Washington
On August 11, Trump declared a public safety emergency in Washington and the District of Columbia. The head of state is deploying the National Guard to help restore law and order and has promised to clear the capital of slums.
On August 19, Republican governors from six states additionally sent more than 1,100 National Guard troops to Washington. The decision was made in support of Trump’s announced plan to combat violent crime.
Over the past seven days, the Trump administration has repeatedly credited itself with reducing crime levels in Washington. White House officials emphasized the increase in daily arrests and claimed that more active actions by federal forces are making the capital safer.
At the same time, Washington’s mayor, Democrat Muriel Bowser, stressed that the city’s police have been showing a steady decline in crime rates for two years, long before Trump’s re-election as president.
Earlier, Donald Trump declared a nationwide state of emergency to protect the US economy.
After that, the head of state began introducing tariffs on imports from many countries around the world to the US.
