Trump plans talks with Republicans on sanctions against Russia

US President Donald Trump believes that now may not be the right time to impose new sanctions on Russia. At the same time, he said he will discuss the issue with Republican leaders in the US Congress, according to a White House briefing.
Reporters asked Trump to respond to Senate Republican Majority Leader John Thune’s statement supporting a bill for new sanctions against Russia.
“Well, we're going to see. Uh, he doesn't know about the call yet,” replied the US president.
However, he noted that he plans to speak with Senator John Thune and House Speaker Michael Johnson regarding the bill on new anti-Russian sanctions.
“I'll speak to them a little bit later, and I'll tell them about this, and we'll make the right determination. I'm not against anything. I'm just saying it may not be perfect timing,” Trump said.
Call for sanctions and dialogue with Putin
On October 16, the Republican leader in the US Senate, John Thune, said that the Senate could consider Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill, which proposes devastating sanctions against Russia. According to him, the time to review the bill has come.
However, on the same day, US President Donald Trump held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Following the call, the White House chief announced a new meeting with the Kremlin leader.
According to Trump, he will meet with Putin in Budapest within the next two weeks. The key topic of the talks is the possibility of ending the inglorious war between Russia and Ukraine.
