Trump orders Ukraine peace plan, US special envoy says

The United States is preparing a new plan to end the war and achieve lasting peace in Ukraine, according to a statement by US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Jared Kushner, at a press conference following the talks in Kyiv.
Framework agreement preparation
Kushner says Washington wants not simply to stop the fighting but to develop a mechanism that will guarantee lasting peace in the region.
The United States hopes this will help end the hostilities and open the door for both countries to realize their potential.
He stressed that President Trump tasked him with preparing a peace package.
Details of talks
The special envoy noted that the US side highly appreciates the hospitality of Ukrainian authorities and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Before traveling to Kyiv, the US representatives also held consultations in Moscow.
Envoy Kushner emphasized that Trump is now focused not simply on stopping the conflict, but on creating a framework in which it will be possible to build "a durable peace."
Trump team's approach to diplomacy
Kushner said President Donald Trump's team, which includes Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and representatives of the defense and intelligence agencies, is doing everything possible to end the war.
According to him, Trump approaches international issues from a business perspective, guided by the "win-win" concept—creating opportunities in which the parties act in their own interests.
"We were sitting before with Germany, with a former enemy of US. There are no such things in the world as 'forever enemies' or 'forever allies.' We have to start from the first principles idea of what can be the best, how it can be, and what is beneficial to people. A war is a negative sum, everyone loses from war," Kushner emphasized.
Main goal pursued by Washington
Trump envoy stressed that achieving peace would have been easier if the necessary steps had been taken earlier, but the US team is now making every effort.
The key US priorities in this process are:
- Protecting American interests: The main guiding principle for President Trump when choosing a diplomatic strategy
- Seeking flexible solutions: Having multiple possible tools and ways to achieve peace
- Mutual benefit: Resolving the conflict through a pragmatic, business-oriented approach.
US special envoys' visit to Kyiv
As previously reported, US presidential special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held a series of meetings in Kyiv.
The US side held talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine's negotiating team and representatives of Europe.
US officials made their first statements about the talks and the path forward toward peace.
According to them, the United States is working not simply to pause the conflict, but to create a clear framework for building lasting peace and ending the hostilities.
