Trump open to meeting Putin in Türkiye — But there's a catch

US President Donald Trump has said he would consider meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Türkiye on May 15, if Putin arrives for negotiations with Ukraine, according to The Guardian.
According to Trump, he currently does not know whether the Russian President will attend the talks in Türkiye.
"He'd like me to be there, and that's a possibility. I don't know that he would be there if I'm not there. We're going to find out," he said during a conversation with reporters.
According to Clash Report, Trump also stated that a busy schedule won't prevent him from meeting Putin "to save lives."
Russia-Ukraine talks in Türkiye
In the early hours of May 11, Vladimir Putin rejected a proposal to establish a ceasefire but expressed Russia's willingness to resume negotiations with Ukraine on May 15 in Istanbul.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in turn, confirmed Ukraine's readiness for dialogue with Russia but emphasized that such a meeting would only be possible after a ceasefire is implemented on the front lines.
Later, Istanbul declared its readiness to act as a mediator in the planned talks.
Meanwhile, US Special Envoy Keith Kellogg noted that the possibility of negotiations would only arise after a ceasefire is in place.
