US President Donald Trump stated that he is helping Ukraine a lot in a war that "should have never happened," according to his response to journalists.

Trump was asked why he doesn’t support Ukraine in the same way he does Israel.

"I am helping Ukraine. I’m helping them a lot. It’s a war that should have never happened. It’s a war that should never have started," he said.

Trump once again claimed that Russia would not have launched a full-scale war against Ukraine if he had won the 2020 presidential election.

"If the elections weren’t rigged, there would be no war with Russia right now. We wouldn’t have inflation, we wouldn’t have the horrible Afghanistan the way they left. I think that was the most embarrassing day in the history of our country,” he added, referring to the US military pullout from Afghanistan. "There wouldn’t be an October horror show with Israel and Hamas, or the recent showdown with Iran."

Trump also said he had a good conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He said it had been a great call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but added that his conversation with Vladimir Putin had been disappointing.

Zelenskyy–Trump call

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump spoke by phone on July 4 following a massive Russian attack on Ukraine.

Zelenskyy described the conversation as important and constructive and expressed gratitude to the United States for its support.

Later, Keith Kellogg, the US President’s special representative for Ukraine, praised Zelenskyy following the call with Trump.

Notably, Trump had earlier stated that Israel had agreed to a 60-day ceasefire proposal. Hamas responded positively to the offer. An official announcement of the truce is expected on July 7.
