US President Donald Trump believes that a deal to end Russia’s war against Ukraine is already close, according to the American leader’s remarks at the turkey pardon ceremony on the eve of Thanksgiving.

Trump said that, over the past month, reportedly 25,000 Ukrainian and Russian soldiers have died.

"So I think we're getting very close to a deal. We'll find out. I thought that one would have gone quicker," the US leader added.

Peace negotiations

The US prepared a 28-point peace agreement for Ukraine and Russia. The initial version contained a large number of Kremlin ultimatums to Kyiv.

To amend the peace plan, the Ukrainian delegation met with the American delegation in Geneva.

As a result of the dialogue, several points were removed from the plan. In particular, the document no longer requires a mandatory reduction of the Ukrainian army’s size.

According to the Financial Times, the peace plan now includes only 19 points.

Yesterday, November 24, and today, November 25, American officials are holding talks with Russian representatives in Abu Dhabi.

The US Army Secretary’s press secretary said that the negotiations are going well. No further official information about the meeting is available yet.

It is expected that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Washington and meet with US President Donald Trump before the end of November.

According to Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President, the Ukrainian leader is ready to meet on November 27 — Thanksgiving Day.
