Donald Trump names favorite for position of National Security Advisor instead of Waltz

US President Donald Trump says that after the dismissal of Mike Waltz, the position of National Security Advisor may be taken by Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. The head of state calls him the frontrunner, according to Reuters.
During a conversation with journalists aboard Air Force One, the American president spoke of Miller as the main contender for the position of the new National Security Advisor.
On Thursday, Trump removed Waltz and temporarily appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to the position.
Meanwhile, US officials told Western media that the president is not expected to rush the permanent appointment to the position, and several candidates have already emerged.
However, now, Trump, during his return to Washington after the weekend, announced that he is going to name someone. According to the American leader, he expects the position of National Security Advisor to be filled within approximately six months, and it could be Miller.
"I think he sort of indirectly already has that job. Because he has a lot to say about a lot of things. He's a very valued person in the administration, Stephen," Trump said.
What is known about Stephen Miller
Background: 39-year-old Stephen Miller is a senior policy advisor to US President Donald Trump.
After graduating from university, he began his political career working as a press secretary for US Representatives Michele Bachmann and John Shadegg. In 2009, Miller became communications director for Senator Jeff Sessions, who later served as US Attorney General during Trump’s first presidency.
In 2016, Miller joined Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and later became a senior advisor and White House Director of Speechwriting in Trump’s first administration.
As Trump’s speechwriter, Miller helped craft the 2017 inaugural address. He was a key advisor from the early days of Trump’s presidency.
Miller is considered a hardliner on immigration. He was the main architect behind Trump’s travel ban, the administration’s reduction in refugee admissions, and the policy of separating migrant children from their parents.
According to open sources, Miller blocked the release of internal studies that showed refugees had a net positive impact on public finances. As a White House spokesperson, he repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims about mass voter fraud in US elections.
The American press has described Miller’s political stance as far-right and anti-immigration.

Waltz’s dismissal
On May 1, US President Donald Trump dismissed Mike Waltz from his position as National Security Advisor. Western media reported that his deputy, Alex Wong, also planned to resign. According to the press, Waltz is expected to become the US Ambassador to the United Nations.
Waltz’s dismissal came after he accidentally added the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic to a secret Signal chat involving US officials discussing strikes on Yemen. This led to a major scandal in the US.
Additionally, Trump’s domestic security advisor, Stephen Miller, has already been named as the main contender to replace Waltz as National Security Advisor.
