Trump meets with Netanyahu, talks about ending war in Middle East
An aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ron Dermer, met with US President-elect Donald Trump. The purpose of the talks was to brief Trump on Israel’s plans regarding actions in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Iran over the next two months, citing Axios.
"One of the things the Israelis wanted to sort out with Trump is what are the issues he prefers to see solved before January 20 and what are the issues he prefers the Israelis to wait for him," a source told the outlet.
Sources also revealed that the meeting covered topics such as a ceasefire, plans for Gaza’s development post-conflict, and prospects for normalizing relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
According to an Axios source, Dermer also met with Trump’s former advisor Jared Kushner.
American officials said that Netanyahu had informed the current US President Joe Biden’s administration in advance about Dermer's planned meeting with Trump.
The head of the Israeli government previously said that he had spoken with Trump three times within five days of the US election. Netanyahu expressed that there is mutual understanding between them about "great opportunities for Israel," especially regarding peace initiatives and their expansion.
RBC-Ukraine previously reported Trump’s plans to increase pressure on Iran by developing a strategy that includes substantial sanctions and restrictions on Iranian oil exports.
An Israeli journalist reported that Trump has a personal interest in seeing Israel deal a serious blow to Iran.
