US President Donald Trump may meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in April, according to the South China Morning Post.

As the outlet’s sources reported, Trump could visit China as early as next month, as the "American leader has appeared focused on hammering out a deal with Beijing."

However, the leaders of both countries would like the other side to visit their country to present it as a “diplomatic triumph”. The initial discussions centered on Trump's visit to China, though it remains unclear how far negotiations have progressed.

Another source indicated that Trump would prefer Xi Jinping to visit his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, where the two leaders last met in 2017. Meanwhile, Beijing would like a more formal meeting in Washington or an invitation for Trump to visit China.

The source explained that it would be especially important for Xi Jinping if Trump visited China after two sessions, which would be an important diplomatic victory.

US-China relations

The relationship between China and the US is marked by a complex balance of cooperation and rivalry. Economic ties remain strong, because China is one of the US’s top trading partners, and American companies invest heavily in the Chinese market. However, trade disputes persist, particularly over tariffs, technology restrictions, and intellectual property issues.

Recently, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi criticized Trump’s policies, stating that they are bringing the world back to the "law of the jungle".
