Trump says whether he believes the war will end during his presidency
Donald Trump was asked whether he believes the war between Russia and Ukraine will end during his presidency. The interviewer also asked what Trump tells Russian leader Vladimir Putin about ending the war.
"I think so. I thought it would have ended before. I thought it would have been the easiest because I got along with both leaders," Trump said.
The interviewer asked Trump what exactly he tells Russian President Vladimir Putin about ending the war.
"I tell him the same thing all the time. I don't want to go into great detail, but I say, 'Vladimir, it's time for you to stop. It's time for this war to end," he said.
Putin is ready to make a deal, Trump says
According to Trump, the Kremlin leader has indicated to him that he is open to reaching an agreement.
"I think he's ready to make a deal," the US President said.
When asked when that could happen, Trump gave an evasive answer.
"Soon. It takes two to tango. But I think he's ready to make a deal," he added.
Meanwhile, work continues in the United States on a new package of sanctions against Russia.
A day earlier, Trump said there is a good chance that Senator Lindsey Graham's "bone-crushing sanctions" bill will be passed.
According to the US president, the legislation could also be expanded to include sanctions targeting Iran and Hezbollah.
As previously reported by RBC-Ukraine, additional details of the revised version of the bill later emerged.
The legislation would require Trump to impose tariffs of up to 100% on the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas, while providing exemptions for countries that are reducing such imports.
