Trump makes statement on ceasefire in Ukraine and 'three locations' for meeting with Zelenskyy

US President Donald Trump believes that a ceasefire in Ukraine could be achieved during a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. However, he stated that he is not interested in "making a peace deal," according to Trump’s remarks to the press, quoted by CNN.
"I don't know that we're going to get an immediate ceasefire, but I think it's going to come. I'm more interested in (an) immediate peace deal, getting peace fast," Trump said.
According to him, the question of a trilateral meeting involving Zelenskyy will be decided following the summit in Alaska. He mentioned the "idea of three different locations," but in his view, the simplest would be to "stay in Alaska.”
At the same time, Trump said he does not want to talk about a second meeting or even hint at it, including to President Zelenskyy.
Trump also noted that he does not intend to negotiate a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia. He wants Zelenskyy and Putin to discuss it on their own.
"I'm going to let them negotiate their deal. I'm not going to negotiate their deal" he concluded.
According to Trump, during the meeting in Alaska, Putin allegedly wants to reach a deal regarding Ukraine. However, Trump did not specify whether this would be a ceasefire or a full peace agreement.
During his remarks on August 13, Trump also expressed doubts that he would be able to convince Putin to stop the killings in the war against Ukraine. Despite this, he confirmed that his goal remains achieving a ceasefire between the warring countries.
Meeting in Alaska
The Trump-Putin meeting will take place tomorrow, August 15, in Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska. The talks will be held at the Elmendorf–Richardson military base.
Media outlets suggest that during the summit, Putin may present Trump with a condition to recognize the occupied Ukrainian territories as part of Russia in exchange for withdrawing troops from other regions. Ukraine, in turn, has outlined five key conditions that must be met to achieve a just peace.
