Trump leads Harris by only 1% - NYT
US Vice President Kamala Harris and presidential candidate Donald Trump are nearly tied in support, with just a 1% difference between them, reports The New York Times.
According to a survey by The New York Times and Siena College, 48% of likely voters support former President Donald Trump, while 47% support Vice President Kamala Harris.
Among registered voters, Trump leads by a margin of 2 percentage points, with 48% support compared to Harris's 46%.
The New York Times notes that Harris's ability to narrow Trump's significant lead may be attributed to the swift reorganization of the Democratic coalition. As reported by the NYT, Harris has garnered 93% support from Democrats, a figure that matches the level of support Trump receives from Republicans.
Upcoming debates
Harris has stated her readiness for debates with Trump. The second debate between President Joe Biden and Trump was scheduled for September 10 on ABC News. However, following Biden's withdrawal from the race, Trump decided to move the debate to Fox News, which is considered to have a favorable stance toward him. Trump has expressed his willingness to engage in discussions and stated he is open to multiple debates with Harris. However, Harris has yet to confirm whether she will participate in debates on Fox News.
Earlier, it was reported that Fox News offered to moderate the upcoming debates. According to media representatives, they are also open to discussing the date, format, and venue, with or without an audience.
