'Trump knows it's hard to say no to him': Ukraine's official on energy truce with Russia

Ukraine has agreed to de-escalation from the very beginning of US President Donald Trump’s efforts to achieve it. The question lies in Russia's readiness, a source familiar with the matter in the Ukrainian government told RBC-Ukraine.
In particular, he was asked whether Ukraine is now waiting for a response from Russia or is negotiating the details.
"Trump seems to be discussing something with the Russians. When Witkoff and Kushner (the US president’s special envoys — ed.) were here, they discussed various de-escalation options," the source said.
He also suggested that Trump’s statement could be an attempt to present both sides with a fait accompli.
"Because Trump knows it’s hard to say no to him. But Ukraine has agreed to de-escalation from the very beginning of Trump’s efforts to achieve it. The question is whether Russia is ready," the source stressed.
Donald Trump said today that Ukraine and Russia had agreed not to strike energy facilities.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he hoped to meet with Donald Trump in the US as early as next week.
The head of state stressed that Ukraine was open to a maritime and energy truce and added that he planned to discuss the issue with his US counterpart.
