US President Donald Trump held a new conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reported this on Twitter.
"President Trump has concluded a positive call with President Putin concerning Ukraine," Leavitt wrote.
This is the second conversation between Trump and Putin in the past two days. Yesterday, Trump called the Kremlin leader before meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Peace talks on Ukraine
On Sunday, December 28, US President Donald Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. The talks lasted nearly three hours, after which the leaders also spoke with European partners.
Following the meeting, Trump stated that the war is approaching its end. Zelenskyy, for his part, said that the 20-point peace plan is 90% agreed upon, while security guarantees for Ukraine are fully settled. The sides agreed that their negotiation teams would meet next week, with final decisions potentially made in January.
Prior to this, Trump held a phone call with Vladimir Putin, which he described as "productive," and said he intends to call him again after meeting with Zelenskyy.
Meanwhile, reports appeared in the media suggesting that Zelenskyy and Putin could potentially speak by phone for the first time in five years. However, Zelenskyy’s team has already responded to these rumors.
A source in the Ukrainian leader’s team told RBC-Ukraine that a conversation between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin is not currently being discussed. Nevertheless, Ukraine is always ready for it.
