US President Donald Trump held a lengthy conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which all 20 points of the peace plan were discussed in detail, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in response to journalists' questions.
According to Zelenskyy, Trump confirmed that he had gone through the document point by point and discussed the plan that had previously been agreed upon by the parties.
"Trump told me that he went through all 20 points of the plan, point by point. I thanked him for that, because it is important that we are all in the same context and that this specific document is being discussed, not some other one," Zelenskyy said.
He added that the US leader reported on Putin's readiness, but the Ukrainian side treats such statements with caution.
"This is not the first time for us that Putin says one thing and does another. It is important for us that words match actions," the head of state stressed.
Zelenskyy refrained from disclosing details of the talks, emphasizing that the key issue remains the practical implementation of agreements, not just statements from the Russian side.
Trump–Zelenskyy meeting on December 28
On December 28, the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, held an almost two-hour meeting at Trump's residence in Florida, after which they spoke to journalists. During the talks, the sides coordinated disputed points of the so-called peace plan initiated by the American side.
At the press conference, Trump said there had been some progress on the issue of Donbas, which was one of the key topics of the meeting. According to him, there is no final decision yet, but the sides have moved closer to a final agreement.
In addition, the US president announced the creation of a special working group on the peaceful settlement of the situation in Ukraine. At the same time, he clarified that this body will work in cooperation with the Russian side and will include senior figures from US politics.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also publicly summarized the meeting for the first time. He stressed that security guarantees have been fully agreed upon and that the peace plan as a whole is 90% ready. Issues related to Donbas and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) remain unresolved. Regarding the ZNPP, Trump said there had allegedly been a significant step forward from Putin.
